In early May 2019, UniMAP (through the SoME under the initiative of Ir. Dr. Norshamsuri bin Ali @ Hasim and assistance from the CIA UniMAP) signed an MoU with Nicolaus Copernicus University Torun, Poland for a five-year collaboration of teaching and research activities.

Thankfully one of the doctoral students (PhD) at UniMAP who is also a member of the SoME, Pn. Nor Roshidah bint Yusof, under the supervision of Ir. Dr. Norshamsuri bin Ali @ Hasim, has been housed at the Single Photon Applications Laboratory (SPA), Nicolaus Copernicus University Torun for three-month student exchange and photon-related research program from June 17, 2019 - September 16, 2019 (student/staff mobility overseas).

The program under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr Piotr Kolenderski has been fully funded by the Polish International Agency for Academic Exchange (International scholarship exchange of PhD candidate and academic staff - PROM program) and Nicolaus Copernicus University Torun (Torun Astrophysics / Physics Summer Program - TAPS 2019).

Some of the successful activities are:

1. Perform experiments using the facilities available at SPA

2. Present a research paper at OPTO Seminar 2019 (http://opto.edu.pl/)

3. Attend lectures.

Hopefully, this activity will benefit everyone involved, and this collaboration will continue to be inshaAllah.

Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has successfully developed the e-PADI system to monitor paddy development parameters electronically and provide guidance to farmers towards high productivity paddy cultivation through its end user application software which is accessible via smart phones, tablets or computers. The internet of thing (IoT)-based system also measures and reports important parameters include soil pH, soil electrical conductivity (EC) towards reducing the use of unnecessary fertilizers, water temperature and water levels which is crucial for productive (estimated up to 10 tons/hectare) paddy developments.

The e-PADI system was invented by Dr. Mohd Nazrin Md Isa from School of Microelectronic Engineering (SoME), UniMAP, developed under the MTSFB IoT Project Grant.
